Michael Jordan mens basketball shoes
Even though Michael Jordan has retired from playing professional basketball, he has left behind an incredible line of “Air Jordan Shoes”. Along with the new Jordan basketball shoes that are being released, the Jordan brand continues to produce a whole line of shoes for fashion, training, and casual wear.
Since its first release in 1985, this Jordan basketball shoe sensation has now become a fashion dynasty. Michael Jordan will have his nickname “Air Jordan” preserved in the future on basketball shoes, as it will be worn by your children and your grandchildren. Below is the background on Michael’s shoes since 1985.
The Air Jordan I shoe
Peter Moore designed the Air Jordan I in 1985 and marked a new era in the creation of basketball shoes. When it was first released, the black and red shoe was banned by the NBA because of the NBA color rules. This actually helped to generate more interest and publicity for the shoes. No doubt a marketing strategy by Nike, because it helped to generate tons of attention, and has been the basis for nineteen different Jordan shoes, limited editions, and the retro versions.
In the beginning, the original Air Jordan I would come with two sets of laces to match the black or red colors of the shoe. So you would receive one set of red laces and one set of black laces. The Jordan I was released as a retro in 1994 and it just didn’t sell well. In 2001 Nike released them again in patent leather and their demand increased ten fold. During the coming years, the Air Jordan line has managed to survive changes and controversy in fashion while still producing good quality basketball shoes.
The Air Jordan II shoe
Bruce Kilgore designed “The Air Jordan II” shoe in 1986 and just as the AJ I, it showed a great original design. Italy produced the low-tops and it became more stylish than the ordinary basketball shoe. The shoe was never made in a black version. Nike had plans to do so, but they never did so.
The white and black Air Jordan II’s were retroed in 1994, for a limited edition. Just like the AJ Retro I the sales were very poor and often times would be found deeply discounted at nationwide shoe stores. The Jordan II has been recently re-retroed, and finally in black leather. The Jordan Retro II is also available in white/varsity red/black.
The Air Jordan III shoe
Tinker Hatfield designed the Air Jordan III shoe in 1988, which was completely different from the AJ I and AJ II. It was the first pair of Michael Jordan shoes that would show a visible air sole. This was also the very first Air Jordan shoe to feature the “Jumpman” logo instead of the traditional “Wings” logo that appeared on the first two Jordan shoes. The Jordan III was the most popular Air Jordan shoe ever in the history of the dynasty, but it became very unpopular when retroed in 1994.
The Air Jordan IV shoe
Tinker Hatfield continued to design the next models, up to the 15th. The Air Jordan IV was released in 1989. At that time, Michael kept on playing in a confident and dominating way and won many honors and awards. The AJ IV wasn’t as revolutionary as the previous designs, but it did keep much of the feeling from the AJ III model. The Air Jordan shoes had started to get major popularity, and sold out every year.
The Air Jordan XXIII shoe
On February 16, 2008, the Air Jordan XXII shoe was released, which represented 23 years of Jordan’s dynasty. The supreme shoe for the greatest basketball player. The unique upper is a combination of supple synthetics and rich leathers, which when put together it offers a very sustainable basketball shoe. The engineered perforation pattern on the upper shoe offers greater breathable performance. The quilted linings and foams found on the inside of the shoe offer superior protection and comfort. A plated chassis surrounds a full-length phylon midsole which houses a full length ride of Zoom Air cushioning. This is the first Jordan shoe that offers better protection and comfort while it maintains stability. Also, a solid rubber multi-directional type outsole that is inspired by Michael’s thumbprint. The traction pattern improves the stability and grips the court for very fast cuts.
